Keeping the Community Active

About EBCSA

"Giving our community the ability to be more active, more often."

EBSCA was formed in 2012 (with charity status gained in 2016) as a result of Birkenshaw ARLFC and Hunsworth FC joining forces to generate funds to redevelop the changing rooms at East Bierley Playing Fields.

Too long had our players put up with changing rooms woefully below the standard, too many times had lads had to tread wearily in to the showers to avoid the bit that feels like it’s going to give way, and too many spectators had commented on that dangerous bit of perimeter fencing. The time came when enough was enough and something needed to be done.

A committee was formed with representatives from each of the founding clubs, along with two independent volunteers who set about raising the required funds to enable phase one of the redevelopment project to commence. Our vision was to build new changing rooms, create a safer sporting arena, and develop the grounds to make easier and safer access to the site.

After reaching many dead ends, we eventually secured grants from Sport England, the Football Federation, Locality, the Big Lottery and the Spen & Batley District Committee

However, the grants only totalled roughly half of what was required to deliver phase one of the project so we looked at a long-term option to take legal guardianship of the land through an asset transfer from Kirklees Council along with a long term, six figure loan. EBCSA then became the first community organisation in Kirklees to successfully complete on a combined asset transfer and business loan.

Taking the loan means we have an exciting opportunity to involve the local sports community in helping us to repay it through a calendar full of events.

With the funds secured we have finally been able to complete phase one of our vision – to provide safe and secure changing rooms and update the playing fields so that our current and future players have somewhere to call home and somewhere to be proud of.

What you see today is the result in a lot of hard work from volunteers who have worked tirelessly to ensure that East Bierley continues to offer its community the chance to get involved in sport.

We’ve got lots of ideas in the pipeline to be able to give the wider community the ability to get active, and not just in football or rugby, so please take a look at our future plans and feel free to get in touch with any questions. Click here to email us.
